E-mail reply to a post regarding seizures in general: A friend of mine had a dog who regularly experienced grand mal seizures- loss of consciousness, foaming at the mouth...the whole thing. He put the dog (65 lbs) on 2 grams of Taurine per day and the seizures stopped and never returned. He kept him on this dose of Taurine permanently.

Here is a site referring to Taurine's effect on seizures:

Staph Infections

Try Echinacea to help boost the immune system
One reader has used VMM brand at a dosis of 3 tablets twice a day for 5 days and had good results with it.

Tar on paws and other sticky substances

E-mail reply to a post regarding tar on a dog's paws: Lemon Essential Oil, I have seen it take paint off and would try that right away! (Note: this worked like a charm!)
Suggestions from other e-mails: salad oil, peanut butter, mineral oil (works great on furry paws, also),

Collapsed Trachea

E-mail reply to a post regarding cough: "In my dog, it turned out to be a collapsing trachea. It got and gets irrated mostly when we give him a bath if we forget to be gentle around his throat. I went through the antiobiotic thing too and as soon as we started giving Happy olive oil (to moisten his throat) and garlic to end the spasms and put a harness on him his coughing is limited to the times I mentioned above. Try massage around his gullet and keeping him quiet for awhile.

This was sent in by a reader of this website: I discovered a homeopathic vet who recommended the remedy 'Lachesis' in a 30C. I crushed 4 tiny pills and gave them to (her dog) twice for two days. His symptoms immediately disappeared and when they returned a year or so later, I gave him one more dose. I also switched him to a harness-type collar to prevent any irritation to his windpipe. It never bothered him again.
(Note) Different companies that make homeopathic medicines produce different size pills. I used about a third/ quarter dose (for a small 15-20 lb dog) that you'd give an adult. Adjust according to the size of the dog.

Thyroid Protocol

E-mail sent in by a member of the Holistic Dog list: "My vet/surgeon told me of a new Thyroid Protocol that he says is more  sensitive and better than the 5-6 panel one being used now.

The new Thyroid testing involves: 1. a THS (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) and 2. a T4 by Equilibrium Dialysis. Ask your vet(s) about it.
